      How big are more of a tougher meat, and flounder are more of a flaky light meat. But halibut are one of the fish that has less oils less fatty fish. The more you know.

    • @DDFishingCo
      @DDFishingCo 5 дней назад

      There are so many different species and names. I have heard they are called fluke on the united states east coast. These are California halibut which are more like flounder compared to its big brother the Pacific and Atlantic halibut.

    Great video, thanks for sharing. For halibut, do you fish around a particular tide? I have heard some people say they fish an incoming tide so the halibut can see in clearer water and I’ve also heard people say they fish an outgoing tide for the warmer water? Do you guys have a preference or just fish on your days off work, whenever you get a chance? Also, I really like to see what gear you are finishing with, thanks.

    • @DDFishingCo
      @DDFishingCo 7 дней назад

      Thanks man! We typically fish when we can. We prefer slower moving tides for the halibut, big tides are usually tough. If we have a big tide, we focus on the first hour or last hour of the tide since it slows down. In this video we are using slow pitch jigging rods, regular jig rods would be ok too, as long as they arent super super heavy. This rod does have a nice tip and loads up well on the fish.

    What kinda rod specs you running for jigging those in the bay?

    • @DDFishingCo
      @DDFishingCo 7 дней назад

      We were using slow pitch jog rods in this video. I would get some kind of jig rod that could handle the weight of the jig you are using. These rods have a nice tip where they load up really good without being too heavy on the fish. We were using 3.25oz jigs. The rods we ran were rated from 2-9oz. We could probably run a little lighter even, something 1-4 or 2-6 oz would be ok too.

The farthest rod down the center, then the next rods would be a little closer, the closest rods are right off the side of the boat in very close to the prop wash. Our distances vary, we do it by eye really. Albacore come and eat in the prop wash. If I had to guess I would say the closest rods are 40-50ft. and the farthest rods are 200-300ft maybe?

    • @DDFishingCo

      You can cast and retrieve them too. There’s a variety of ways they can be used. When you retrieve them it’s very similar to a lipless crank bait but with more action with the appendages. You can troll with them too with the bigger sizes for offshore fish.
